The renovation project attempts to create a multidisciplinary program that includes a boutique, a cafe, a garden, office space, event space, and storage for the rising local brand. Much like the brand, the boutique creates a relationship between Modernist Amman and Islamic Architecture.
The intricate tableware that is showcased in the boutique was lost in the large space with the 6 meter high ceiling. In order to create a more intimate space, an interplay between light and shadow is born with the contrasting textures of the rough brick and the airy curtains.
Certain elements that reflect the Modernist Ammani architecture are implemented in the design, such as the iconic patterned bricks, the custom designed color-patterned tiles, as well as the custom designed terrazzo. Despite the universality of the claustra blocks, they resonate an aura of Mid-century Ammani architecture. To control the direct sunlight that fills the space with its glass south facing facade, the patterned bricks act as a Mashrabiyya to filter the harsh light.
The curtains play a role in creating a fluid space that gives the boutique adaptability and the option to change the size of the space according to each collection. With the numerous collections that Decoration One designs, the approach allows each collection to have its own identity and space without infringing on the other, yet at the same time have a holistic overall continuity of the space, and spatial fluidity. The white backdrops offer a sharper image of each individual item, allowing users to appreciate the products with respect to their unique, handmade details. The open plan is not sacrificed and allows the boutique to shape the space in numerous ways.
