AL BUSTAN

Type: Civic

Location: Amman, Jordan

Status: Academic

Year: 2016

Amman has over 133 graveyards scattered around the city. Cemeteries are planned outside of the city, only for the city to crawl and swallow it. These once celebrated spaces are today labelled a strain on public life and the city. By allowing the cemetery to act as an urban lung and introducing new additional typologies, they can become active agents in improving the city’s public life.
