The research investigates the possibility of scaling rammed earth construction to provide affordable housing with low embodied, and operational energy. The pilot project in Amman, Jordan will set precedent to countries that are in similar climate zones which will change the global narrative around rammed earth construction in urban settings. This will introduce international building codes as well public perception to recent technological advancements in earth construction and allow it to become an alternative to traditional construction in medium to high density urban settings. A rammed earth, cross laminated timber structure has the potential to meet the urbanization and housing demands in specific regional while aligning with the goals of the Paris Climate Accord.
The structural CLT slabs span between the load bearing rammed earth walls, which creates a column free typology that can be changed or altered based on any need.
